'Blue Ribbon Recipes'

This is another recipe that wins blue ribbons for me. It's so easy it's unbelievable. It is also my own recipe...more trial and error, but I finally got it. This is best served with a dollop of whip cream or Cool Whip...I don't use icing on this cake. And for being a cake made from scratch, you won't believe how moist it is...I made sure of it.


'Catt's Applesauce Cake'



3 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup water

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 can applesauce

1/3 cup vegetable oil

2 eggs



Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

Grease a Bundt pan. Measure all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Blend spices into flour mixture. Cut in shortening. Add remaining ingredients. Beat with mixer until well blended...minute or two. Pour into Bundt pan and bake for about 55-60 minutes. Let cool for about 5 minutes, then remove from pan. Cake is wonderful served warm or cool, but definitely with a dollop of whipped cream. Stand back and be worshipped!
